Gussy Sakula-Barry

Gussy is a BAFTA-nominated Director with over 12 years experience working on a wide range of documentaries including observational, archival and presenter-led. She is collaborative in her filmmaking and explores nuance in her storytelling.

Gussy has worked overseas multiple times (India, Sri Lanka, Gambia, Ukraine, Tokyo, Bogota, Lagos, LA, Miami, Barcelona) and has made programmes with a broad spectrum of access from the police and the NHS, to high profile people like Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid. 

In 2016 she was named a Broadcast magazine Hot Shot under 30 and she has been a tutor for the Directing Documentary MA at the National Film and Television School (NFTS).

As well as documentary, Gussy has worked in casting and producing drama including Catch Me Daddy (2014, dir. Daniel Wolfe, Director’s Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival), for which she street-cast the lead role, and Kara (2019, dir. Deepa Keshvala) which won the BFI London Calling Plus Award.
